Bio

I started my career in a City Insurance office in 1962 and it was not long afterwards that I discovered that I was getting interested in accounting.
I then joined a City firm of Chartered Accountants, spending all day as a Tax Clerk.

I soon realised that I was more interested in the way people made a profit, rather than how much tax they should pay, and went into a local company manufacturing industrial tapchangers, as a cost clerk.

I have sinced worked for a wide variety of small to medium sized local manufacturers, gaining tremendous experience in accounting for profit.
I have installed many management information systems for small companies, manually driven to start with, and then set up my own consultancy book keeping service in 1974.

The real breakthrough came when, in 1982, I joined an independent Volkswagen dealer who had five departments (Service Dept, Parts Det, Body Shop, Car Sales and an Engine Refurbishment workshop).
I installed a complete manual accounting system and set up stores ledgers and costing procedures. It all became too much for me to handle alone, so I got some clerical help and also persuaded my boss to install a computer.

I quickly got to grips with the software and started to write my own, in order to produce regular monthly Management Accounts, and since then there's been no going back.

I've since installed computerised Management Information Systems for a Neck Tie manufacturer, a double glazing manufacturer, an office furniture manufacturer, a clothing retailer, a sports photography business and a lift refurbishment engineering company.
